- Mails requested library materials free of charge to patrons residing outside of the Bismarck-Mandan-Lincoln area
- Receives material and information requests online, over the phone, and in person
- Hosts an extensive collection of materials about North Dakota and created by North Dakotans
- Promotes librarianship in North Dakota through an expansive circulating collection of Library Science materials
- Renders additional research services to North Dakota state employees
- Loans large print books for eight weeks and all other materials for four weeks
- Accumulates and loans out documents from all state agencies, including boards and commissions and state universities
- Documents include newsletters, magazines, minutes, maps, audit reports, and Cooperative Extension Service publications
- All publications available via ODIN and WorldCat, including online (.pdf) versions for immediate viewing
- Print copies available in multiple locations: Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot, and Valley City; or call the State Library to have items mailed to you
- Catalogs for libraries that receive a grant to join WorldCat, an international online catalog that many North Dakota libraries are a part of
- Catalogs for state agencies that have their own collection that they want to make available
- Works with over 55 school and public libraries and eight state agencies
- Purchases materials for State Library collections
- Manages serials and standing orders for State Library
- Catalogs all materials housed at the State Library
