Did you know that macular degeneration is the leading cause of legal blindness
in the Western world? However, other eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy,
glaucoma, cataracts and retinitis pigmentosa can steal a person's ability to
read standard print. In addition, many physical disabilities, such as cerebral
palsy, muscular dystrophy, stroke, severe arthritis, dyslexia, AIDS and brain
injuries prohibit individuals from holding a book or newspaper, or comprehending
the printed word.
